Go to food!

Like many of you, there are certain items you will always find in my kitchen. Both today’s breakfast AND lunch featured many of my go to food essentials.

Breakfast

Suzies Thin Cakes, PB, Banana, A drizzle of honey.

For Breakfast I enjoyed three Suzies Thin Cakes in the Spelt and Flax seed variety. These are my go to ‘rice cake’ option because they are thinner than your traditional rice cake but still have that crunch that I loveeee in a rice cake. I topped them each with a smear of Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter! If you have not tried this natural peanut butter option stop reading this post and go get some righhhtt now! This Peanut Butter is wonderful with just two ingredients Valencia Peanuts and Sea salt, but doesn’t separate as much as other natural peanut (Tip:If you refrigerate it you can avoid having to mix it every time). OH and the FLAVOR is rock your socks off amazing, it has this natural sweetness to it that natural peanut butter doesn’t generally have. Now that I have hopefully convinced you on your next peanut butter purchase hahaha–it’s just that good!–I finished off my thin cakes toppings with half a banana and a drizzle of honey on each. A delicious well rounded breakfast!

Lunch

Baby Spinach, Shredded Carrots, Goat Cheese, Tuna in Water, TJ'S Champagne Vinaigrette.

This made for a fantastic lunch. I had been snacking all morning-A Think Thin crunch bar, my bodies weight in immune boosting gummy bears and some applesauce later my appetite was light but I wanted to get in some veggies and protein.  This is definitely a go to lunch for me as  I generally have almost every ingredient on hand except goat cheese. I know some people are not big fans of Trader Joes  Light Champagne Vinaigrette because it is quite salty. BUT for me it pairs perfectly with a can of bland tuna!

Workout

Today’s workout featured a boring mile and a half on the treadmill until I hopped off and went to go complete a lower body circuit. 100 squats to start, side jumping side lunges, kettle ball swings, hip abductors machine and free weight version, hamstring curls, and finally hip adductors machine. I rounded it off with a quick ten minutes on the elliptical.

After I hopped out of the shower today and went to grab my moisturizer and sunscreen, yes sunscreen, I glanced outside and notice it was really overcast but that didn’t stop me from putting on my sunscreen. I know this may seem weird to some people but as much as I love the sun (and miss it–come on spring 2012!) I know it can be harmful to my skin even on unassuming cloudy days where the suns rays are still traveling through the clouds. I personally have very sensitive skin and am always on the lookout for a sunscreen that is not to heavy and greasy and works well under makeup. For the last four months or so I have been enjoying Kiehl’s Super Fluid in SPF 50 and have had a great experience. It is a little pricey for the initial purchase @ $34.00 for 1.7 fl oz bottle but I definitely recommend it for anyone who is looking for a great sunscreen and a little goes a very lonnng way, I am not even halfway through the bottle and I have been using it nearly everyday for about four months.

So there you have it! Some of my go to food items and also my sunscreen of choice.
